Day 172 – Electrician, Plumber and HVAC Back
A lot of the finishing touches were installed this week. The plumbers were at the house earlier in the week to install all the plumbing fixtures. The sinks, toilets and faucets were all installed.
The only issue we had was in the master bathroom, where they need two holes in the counter tops and only one was there. The counter top people are supposed to be back to place another hole, and the plumbers are going to be back next week to finish installing the faucets.
The electrician and HVAC both showed up on Wednesday to install their finishes. Most of the switches and lights were installed. They were back the next day to finish, and now we officially have light in the house! Alpine heating and electric came and installed the vent covers and worked on getting the gas set up.
Last weekend we spent Saturday afternoon building stairs out the back door. At some point we would like to put a patio in the back, but unfortunately had to hold off on that as part of that budget went to the city required sidewalks.
I think I finally have figured out the rain garden situation. The inspector still did not like the fact that there was some standing water in it, so I have officially given up on trying to do it myself and have called the professionals. I met with the landscaper this week and he had a couple of things that he thought would fix it. We are hoping that they will be able to come next week to get it working better for the inspectors.
The biggest frustration with the rain garden and the sidewalks is the information that we were given by the engineer on our project. He has given us incorrect information multiple times; which has cost us money. The inspectors keep pointing the finger at him, but that does not help our situation.
I can’t believe we’re only a couple of weeks from closing! Things are really starting to wrap up with the house. We’ve been working on packing a few things away, so we don’t have to get everything packed at one time. We’re hoping by doing it over an extended time it will help make it less stressful.
The appliances were delivered on Saturday and we did a good clean of the house, which included our fourth run to the dump. We’re getting close, just crossing our fingers everything gets done in time and passes inspections.
Thank you for following along. It has been a journey getting here and we are starting to see the finish line, we can’t wait to get into the new house!
