I received a call from our site superintendent on Wednesday that the tile guy was at the house and wanted to know if we could look at everything to make sure it was correct before installing. It looked like he had all the right material and I was able to discuss with him how we wanted everything, in certain areas we were doing stagger set tiles so we had to decide how much stagger, which direction the tiles were going, etc.

He started on the shower and floor in the master bath first and was planning on ending with the back splash in the kitchen. He was hoping to get everything done this week, but said that if he has to come back later he might do that. Like much of the trades so far he has been good to communicate with and make sure things are done correctly.

Also, this week the painters are back working on prep for painting the trim and doors. They’ve been caulking away the past couple of days and will start priming next week and painting the following week.

Working with the City of Eugene for Approval of Rain Garden

The saga with the city on the rain garden continues. The inspector had emailed and he was suggesting changing some of the plants. I was also able to speak with the manager for the engineering department and she was very nice, but it doesn’t sound like they communicate very well with the inspectors. However, she was willing to help figure out a solution. I’m waiting for a call back from her on what we need to do to get the rain garden approved.

We’ve been trying to figure out something we can do to avoid putting in sidewalks in front of the house as there are no other sidewalks in the neighborhood. A neighbor that lives around the corner was walking by and he said that he was able to get a pass from installing sidewalks when he was doing a remodel. He used to work at the city, so he said he would make some calls. When I talked to the manager from engineering she said there used to be an option for an irrevocable petition, which means you could delay putting in the sidewalks until a later date when the rest of the neighborhood puts them in, but that no longer exists. Basically, there’s not going to be a way out of doing the sidewalks.

I was really hoping that we’d be able to get out of putting them in, but without any further word on it I talked to our excavator to make sure he was coming to get it done so it doesn’t delay our move in. He is planning on coming next week to do the excavation and the concrete guy will be back to pour the sidewalks.

Upcoming Schedule for New Home Construction

Tile install – 12/13  12/17
Paint  doors/trim – 12/26-1/6
Plumber, HVAC, electrician back to install fixtures – 1/7
Appliance delivered – 1/10/19
Paint touch up – 1/16
Pre-walk through – 1/18
Close – 1/25

Things continue to progress and we still seem to be on schedule for our move in date. We will see if we get any delays from the city, but we’re crossing our fingers that we get everything done in time. I can’t believe we’re only a month away from being done. It’s going to be a busy month for us trying to get everything done and getting ready to move!
