Day 136 – Exterior Painting, Window and Door Trim, Rain Garden

We were finally able to get the outside of the house painted!!! The weather was on the chilly side, but we had a full week without any rain! The painters were working hard to get it painted this week before the rain comes back next week. We ended up going with the dovetail grey by Sherwin-Williams for the body of the house and eider white for the trim.

We waffled for a while between dovetail grey and pewter tankard, but in the end dovetail won. There was a little concern that it would be too dark for what we wanted, but I think it turned out great and isn’t too dark at all.

The landings where concrete will go and the front porch was prepped this week with rock and compacted. They are supposed to pour the concrete next week.

The finish carpenters have been busy on the inside. They finished up the stairs, which turned out great. They have all the cabinets installed and have been working on the trim work.

Without the rain this week, the other thing we really wanted to get done was the rain garden. The rain garden is a city requirement and needs to be approved before we get the certificate of occupancy. All the rain water from the house goes into the rain garden so when it’s raining it is full of water. Doing this in the winter has been challenging with all the rain. Luckily, we had a break from the rain so I had time to plant, but getting 400 plants in the ground takes time.

Next week the hardwood flooring and tile are supposed to be going in, so stay tuned to see how those turn out!
