Day 94 – Adair Homes New Home Construction
It’s been 94 days since the forms for the foundation were started, and we officially have real walls, with drywall and mud. They started hanging the dry wall last Saturday. They came back this week and they had all the dry wall hung by Wednesday. I went by on Wednesday and was able to speak with the main guy. He thought the modifications we had done on the plan were great, it’s nice to know that other people think we made good choices on modifying the plan.
Our excavator is a little behind schedule. He was supposed to be done by the end of this week, but he did not get started doing most of the trenching until the beginning of the week. Due to the delay from him we don’t have heat in the house. Not a huge problem, but it left us scrambling to find fans to help dry the mud on the drywall.
They taped and put the first layer of mud on yesterday. We were able to find a few fans to help keep the air circulating inside. They said they usually let the first layer dry for a couple of days. They’ll come back, sand everything down and then do another layer of mud.
The garage door was installed this week as well! We still don’t have locks on the doors, but it makes the house look much more complete from the outside with the garage door up. The installer was super nice and gave me a couple of tips on the garage door, so it was nice to be able to talk with him.
At our pre-drywall meeting with our Adair Homes construction superintendent we went over the schedule for the rest of the build. He called out some of the important dates for us moving forward:
Important Dates for Estimated Schedule of New Home Construction
Paint walls/ceiling – 11/12 (may be ready sooner)
Trim truck – 11/26 (sooner if paint is done earlier)
Paint doors/trim – 12/26-1/6
Paint touch up – 1/16
Pre-Walk Through – 1/18
Close – 1/25
We still need to decide on paint colors, but I think we have the exterior paint colors narrowed down. We may take one more trip to Sherwin-Williams to get a sample of dovetail gray to see what it looks like painted on the siding.
The most important thing that needs to get done is that we need electricity set up. I called the electric company to see if they had an idea of when they would be coming out to set the permanent meter. The trench was completed earlier this week and the conduit is in place. We just need the electrical company to come out. If we get this done we can avoid renting heaters for the dry wall when they are ready to texture.
This week we also went and looked at some lighting fixtures. We have a couple of options picked out, but have not settled on one yet. Thoughts on the lights below?
There is still plenty to get done, but right now we need our permanent power set up. Anyone have any good ideas on getting the electric company to come out sooner?
