Day 38 Since Starting Foundation

It’s been 38 days since the foundation was started and we’re still framing. We had a little rain at the beginning of the week, which was a bit of a surprise to me. I checked the forecast and it didn’t look like there was going to be any more rain, but we had more yesterday.

I keep thinking about all the little delays we’ve had along the way; the permits taking twice as long, the foundation starting later, the framers not being available

At the time it didn’t seem like a big difference but with each week delay it starts to add up to months of delays. I was thinking that we’d be able to avoid the rainy season, but in Oregon you never know. It’s a bummer because up until now it’s been a very dry summer. Looking back, it would have been nice to start framing about 2 months earlier.

I guess for next time we know 😉

Going into it we knew there would be different delays, as everyone we’ve talked to about building a home says there are delays; but I was hoping that we would have a long, dry summer. I guess there’s not much we can do about it as we can’t control the weather.

Last week Friday the rest of the materials for framing showed up, as well as our bath and showers. The framers were a bit surprised about this and said that they were lucky we had a large lot or there wouldn’t have been a place to put everything. He seemed a bit surprised that everything was dropped off at one time.

My thought was that it was good to have everything there, so we’re not slowed down by needing materials or something, but then the rain came. I don’t think it rained enough to make a difference, but just the thought of all that wood sitting there getting wet unnerves me a bit.

There continues to be progress on the house. It’s fun to drive by and see something different every time. They finished the first story and have started the floors for the second story. I’m thinking they’ll be able to frame the second story next week and then get the trusses up the following week.

In the mean time we can all pray that we don’t have any more rain until October (or once we have a roof)!
