Floor Joist for New Home
We did not get much done last week. The two weeks prior to that we had the foundation poured and the following week the garage concrete was poured. I was hoping our excavator could come to trench the utilities, install foundation drains and back fill; but unfortunately his bobcat broke down and he wasn’t able to come out.
When we first had our “lot ready” meeting with Adair Homes the plan was to get the house framed and then come back to do the back fill, but once we knew we had some time before the framers could come out we were hoping to get the back fill done at that time. Hopefully, not getting the back fill in during the down time doesn’t set us back too much. I’m sure there will probably a break between steps that we’ll be able to get the back fill and utility trenching done.
Even though we weren’t able to get that done it has not changed the schedule for the framers. As scheduled, the framers came this week and have finished with the floor joists. The plumber arrived this morning and will hopefully finish the under house plumbing today, so the framers can come back next week and will work the next several weeks to frame the house.
Last week I mentioned the side walk situation. I was able to contact the supervisor for the engineering department and unfortunately she still maintains that we need to have sidewalks put in place. I also contacted someone from the inspection department that I had talked with in the past to see if there was anything else we could do, but he referred me back the engineering department.
Yesterday, I heard back from the public works engineering supervisor and she said that there is no appeal process set up for the sidewalks in the code, but I could contact her supervisor. I guess I’ll keep working up the chain of command to get a resolution to the side walk issue. We would really like to avoid putting in a side walk, but we will see what happens.
Each step feels like things are starting to go, but then we have a delay. I think with the start of framing it will really feel like a house is starting to get constructed. There is so much planning and waiting around for each step, it’s nice to see that the house is finally getting worked on!
