Our Timeline for Building a NW New Home
We first met with an Adair Homes agent about four months ago. We started working on customizing our floor plan about three months ago. We got our first set of concept floor plans about a month ago. We finally got an accepted home order this week
Ask anyone building a home; it’s going to take longer than expected. Our expectation is that there are going to be delays, and so far everything has taken longer than the estimated time. Having a baby at the beginning of the process did not help our cause; as it made it difficult to find time to go to the show room to pick out our finish options and meet with the customer service agent, but many of the delays were from Adair Homes.
Our offer on the lot was accepted in early December; and once we knew we had an accepted offer, we wanted to start the next steps in the process of planning our new home build. By this point we had already met with a home ownership counselor, picked out the floor plan and had the site visit. The next step was to choose our finishes.
Delays from the Adair Homes Drafting Department
For us, the next two steps of choosing our finishes and finalizing our layout blended together, as we wanted pricing on changes to the layout before choosing all of our finishes. We would have liked to come into the Adair Homes design center before our baby was born, but due to staff being out before the holidays and then us having a baby, we weren’t able to get in until the first of January to pick out our finish options.
We were also waiting on the drafters and purchasing department from Adair Homes on changes we wanted to make. Although they say these two steps take approximately four days, for us it took about two months. We had a lot of changes from the standards, which probably extended the time it took, but even when we were told it would take a couple of days to get the plans back or hear back on pricing from the purchasing department, it often would take two weeks to hear back.
We finally had things set and were able to meet with the home ownership counselor in early February. We officially signed the home order and put our deposit down. At this point the concept plan was drawn up and we were still able to make changes to the plan if needed.
It took about two weeks to get the concept drawing back and there were a few minor things that needed to be corrected. We met again to go over these minor changes, and got the drawings back and ready to sign off on at the beginning of March.
Accepted Adair Homes Home Order
Two weeks later, and here we are, the middle of March…the home order was finally accepted by Adair Homes and we are now moving into phase 2! Yay!!! During this phase we start the pre-construction process – getting things lined up with the excavator to prepare the site for the foundation, working on permits, finalizing financing and the pre-construction meeting with Adair Homes.
It’s been a busy couple of months of hurry up and wait, but it finally feels like things are moving forward.
